The investigation into the case of an Icelandic man suspected of killing his ten-year-old daughter has been concluded and referred to the District Prosecutor. The man was arrested in September after directing police to his daughter’s body near Kleifarvatn Lake.
Contacted the police himself
On September 15, an Icelandic man was remanded in custody on suspicion of killing his ten-year-old daughter. The man was arrested north of Kleifarvatn Lake, south of Reykjavík, having contacted the police himself. He directed officers to his daughter’s body, discovered in the lava fields near Krýsuvíkurvegur road.
As subsequently reported, the suspect’s sister expressed dismay over the police’s delay in notifying the paternal side of the family. She stated that the police initially informed the girl’s mother of her death, and at the mother’s request, were supposed to notify the father’s family as well. This was, however, not done in a timely manner.
As reported by RÚV yesterday, the police investigation into the case has concluded. In the coming days, the case will be referred to the District Prosecutor, who will decide on charges.
Eight homicides have been committed in Iceland this year, an unprecedented number.
