The old countryside church in Krýsuvík on Reykjanes peninsula in southwest Iceland was destroyed in a fire on January 2, 2010. Only a few days later the association Vinafélag Krýsuvíkurkirkju was founded with the purpose of rebuilding the church.

The project is now well underway. Carpentry teachers and their students at the Hafnarfjördur vocational school, Indskólinn í Hafnarfirdi, took on the task, ruv.is reports.
The small timber church which was built in 1857 and restored in 1964 was set on fire by four youngsters, according to Rev. Thórhallur Heimisson of Hafnarfjördur.
