Car Stolen with Two-Year-Old Inside

A passenger car with a two-year-old inside was stolen outside a preschool in Kópavogur, near Reykjavík, shortly after 3 pm today, RÚV reports. A father had arrived at Rjúpnahæð preschool to pick up his child. He left a two-year-old in the car, which was running idle, while he went inside. When he returned, the car was gone. A man had arrived while the father was gone and driven the car away.

All available police officers in the capital area were called out, and a helicopter searched from the air. Police issued an alert that the car was missing and asked for the public’s help.

Within half an hour, police received information that the car had been spotted by the Króna supermarket in the Kórar neighborhood in Kópavogur. They rushed to the scene and found the man, the child and the car. The child was unharmed and was brought to its mother.

An hour ago, police were still at the scene, questioning witnesses. Investigation is ongoing.
