Car Rescue Operation on Ring Road 1 Takes 20 Hours

The search and rescue team of Vopnafjörður, Northeast Iceland, spent twenty hours helping a traveler who had passed a closing sign on Ring Road 1, east of Lake Mývatn, and continued on, until he got stuck in snow at Jökulkinn in the Möðrudalsöræfi mountain pass, half way between Lake Mývatn and Egilsstaðir.

It took the search and rescue team 14 hours in a bad snow storm, Saturday night, to reach the small car and save the driver.

The road, the only connection between North and East Iceland, has been closed since last Thursday and is still closed, ruv.is reports.
