The turnover of car rental companies in Iceland amounted to ISK 51 billion (USD 515m/EUR 417m) last year. This figure is equal to the turnover in Icelandic agriculture, according to preliminary figures from Statistics Iceland. Kjarninn reported on the issue.
The data on car rental companies comes from Íslandsbanki bank’s 2018 report on tourism in Iceland. The bank estimates revenue growth in the tourism industry will be around 10 percent this year.
The number of car rental companies in Iceland has increased fivefold since 2007. Last summer they accounted for 25,000 cars on Icelandic roads.
