A driver who wanted to test the thickness of the ice covering lake Raudavatn in Reykjavík last on Monday evening discovered that it wasn’t thick enough to support the weight of his jeep. The ice broke and the car plunged into the lake.

The driver didn’t suffer any injuries and managed to get out of the car and onto dry land by himself, where he waited for assistance from another car, Fréttabladid reports.
However, firefighters and search and rescue team members had to be called out to pull the jeep out of the lake. It is not yet clear how much damage it suffered.
