Captain Leaves Iceland’s Handball Team

Right-winger Ólafur Stefánsson, who was captain of the national men’s handball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, after which they took home the silver, has decided not to play with the national team during Iceland’s games in the next few months.

“I need some time to think things through and then maybe I’ll get a sense of hunger again which isn’t there now,” Stefánsson told Fréttabladid, not ruling out that he will join the national team again later on.

“I will not participate until January. Then we will just have to see what I want to do,” Stefánsson said, adding, “I hope my decision won’t cut off any opportunities.”
