A new survey shows high support for tourism among residents of the Capital Region, with 71% expressing a positive view.
As reported by RÚV, the poll was carried out by Maskína on behalf of the Capital Region Marketing Office. The figures mark an increase from last year, when 66% said they felt positively about visitors.
The economic benefits were widely recognised among respondents. Three out of four agreed that tourism has a positive effect on the local economy.

That’s not to say that some issues were not raised, and concerns remain about the industry’s impact on daily life.
The most frequently cited downsides were the number of tourists, increased rental car traffic, and pressure on the housing market.
Of course, tourism has been one of Iceland’s most important industries over the past decade, and the capital region remains at the centre of visitor activity.
