Landnemar (“Settlers”), a developmental group on behalf of the Reykjavík Municipal Work School, will offer canoe trips on the Reykjavík Pond this summer. The canoes were tried out for the first time yesterday.

People can take the canoes out on the pond for free between 10 am and 3 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays this month, either on their own or with assistance from the members of Landnemar. Each canoe can carry four passengers, Fréttabladid reports.
“We want to make use of what the city has to offer,” said Ívar Örn Sverrisson, project manager at the Reykjavík Municipal Work School. However, in order to not disturb the nesting of the arctic tern, only rowing in the western part of the pond will be permitted.
