Can Unions Strike a Bargain?

Árni Stefán Jónsson, head of SFR Union of Public Workers, says he’s more optimistic than yesterday that an agreement with the State can be reached, according to RÚV . Progress was made yesterday in negotiations between SFR, the Icelandic Union of Nurses’ Aides, the Icelandic Police Federation and the State.

Union members marched down Laugavegur this morning to emphasize their demands.

The current 48-hour strike ends at midnight tonight, but if no agreement is reached, the third 48-hour strike will begin for most union members on Wednesday night next week. Only the strikes at Landspítali University Hospital, county offices, the Directorate of Internal Revenue and the Directorate of Customs have no time limit.
