Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, reports that the organization Campaign Against Military Bases (Samtök herstödvaandstaedinga, SHA), long one of the most visible and vocal opponents of Iceland’s participation in NATO and the US-Iceland defense agreement, has issued a statement strongly criticizing the proposed Russian military maneuvers in the North-Atlantic close to Iceland.
SHA says that the maneuvers serve “no constructive purpose whatsoever” and warn of the risks posed by the presence of nuclear powered and nuclear armed vessels.
