Bus fares go up

January 1 saw a price increase for Reykjavík buses. The single fare for adults is now ISK 250 (USD 4), an increase of ISK 30 (USD 0.50) or 13.6%, whereas children now have to pay ISK 75 (USD 1.20) instead of ISK 60 (USD 0.95). A set of 10 tickets now costs ISK 2000 (USD 31.75); a yellow card, valid for 2 weeks, costs ISK 3000 (USD 47), up from ISK 2500 (USD 40); and a green card, valid for a month, now costs ISK 5000 (USD 79), an increase of ISK 500 (USD 8).

Three new bus routes will be introduced in February to meet requests from bus users, some of whom have been unsatisfied with the new bus system introduced last July. The routes of some of the other routes will be altered to link in better with the new routes.
