Bus Design Competition Extended Due to Popularity

An online competition for bus designs by the Reykjavík bus system has proved popular, according to mbl.is. The competition is not over until midnight tonight but already more than 20.000 votes have been cast and the competition website has twice become overloaded and crashed.

For the past month, Strætó has been running the Meistaraverkið Þitt (Your Masterpiece) competition, where members of the public can enter their design for one of the city buses and vote for others’ contributions. The winner will have his design on an actual city bus. The competition was supposed to end July 1st but due to competition’s popularity and the website crashing, the competition was extended, ending instead at midnight tonight.

The current front runners of the competition are Jakob Guðnason and Lena Margrét Aradóttir’s design, dedicated to the upcoming World Scout Moot in Iceland and feminism, respectively. It’s a tight race and the top designs alternate in taking the top spot. You can view the top 20 designs at www.meistaraverk.is.
