A new poll, published today, conducted for Morgunblaðið by the Social Science Research Institute of the University of Iceland, shows the Independence Party leading the political parties with 21.5 of the vote. It’s followed by the Left-Green Movement and the Pirate Party, who receive 17.7 and 17.5 percent support respectively. The Reform Party comes in fourth with 11.4 percent, followed by the Progressive Party, receiving 8.6 percent, Bright Future, the poll’s biggest winner, with 7.7 percent, and the Social Democratic Alliance, with 6.9 percent.
Other parties would not gain sufficient support to be represented in Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament. Among those are the People’s Party with 3 percent support, and the Icelandic National Front, with 2.7 percent.
The poll was conducted October 6-12. The sample size was 2,050 people and the response rate 59.5 percent.
Gallup published a poll yesterday. Compared with Morgunblaðið’s poll today, its result shows slightly more support for the Independence Party, or 22.6 percent. Pirates enjoy 18.3 percent support, which is also slightly more that the poll published today indicates. The Left-Green Movement gets 14.5 percent support, according to Gallup (compared with 17.7 in today’s poll), followed by the Reform Party with 12.4 percent (as opposed to 11.4 percent in today’s poll). The Progressive Party gets 9.8 percent support (but 8.6 in today’s poll). Gallup’s poll shows Bright Future doing better than the social Democratic Alliance (as does today’s poll), with 7.7 percent support, compared with the Social Democrats’ 7.1 percent. Bright Future is the only party which shows a statistically significant gain, receiving 3 percentage points more than in Gallup’s last poll.
Gallup shows the Icelandic National Front enjoying 3.2 percent support, 2 percent supporting the People’s Party, and close to 2 percent voting for Dawn.
The Gallup poll was conducted October 3-12. The sample size was 2,870 and the response rate about 58 percent.
Parliamentary elections in Iceland are only about two weeks away. They will be held October 29.
