Brent Geese Monitored Through Satellite

Icelandic ornithologists are currently marking Brent Geese in Áftanes, outside Reykjavík, as they make a stopover in Iceland on their way from the European mainland to America.

“This is a project that has been running for eight years and the aim is to track the geese on their journey as well as monitor their whereabouts and lifestyle,” ornithologist Gudmundur A. Gudmundsson told in Morgunbladid.

Some of the geese are marked with a satellite transmitter so ornithologists can track their progress constantly. BBC4 broadcasted live from Áftanes yesterday in a weekly program about migratory birds.
