Breidablik Icelandic Champions in Football

breidablik-logoKópavogur football club Breidablik became the Icelandic champions in men’s football on Saturday. Breidablik and Stjarnan from Gardabaer made a 0-0 draw. Breidablik and FH from Hafnafjördur had equal points after the final round, but Breidablik had scored more goals and thus earned the championship title—for the first time in the team’s history.

“The Breidablik team played good football throughout the summer, from the man in the forefront to the one in the back. There were some good runs and the few dives we experienced only made us work harder. The title is no coincidence,” chairman of Breidablik’s football division, Ólafur Björnsson, told Morgunbladid.

“I have waited for this for a long time. In the years after 1980 Breidablik had a very good period and was one of the best football teams in the country. Then there was a setback but now we have regained our strength. And I predict that we will be among the best in the coming years,” Björnsson added.
