Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative Starts in Iceland

The Reykjavík high school MR was turned pink on Thursday evening with special lighting on the occasion of the launch of the annual pink ribbon sale. The initiative is intended to raise awareness of breast cancer and funds for breast cancer research.

At the launch, the MR choir sang while the choir’s conductor, Gudlaugur Viktorsson, played the drum, Morgunbladid reports.

The Cancer Association of Iceland has the goal of selling 50,000 pink ribbons by October 15 when the initiative ends.

This year’s pink ribbon was designed by product designer Ragnheidur I. Margeirsdóttir who was inspired by the Icelandic national costume and its accessories.

The ribbon costs ISK 1,500 (USD 13, EUR 10) and can be bought on the association’s website (which is in Icelandic).
