Breaking News: Presidential Election Early Results

According to early results in Saturday’s presidential election, incumbent Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson has received 52.2% of the vote, followed by Þóra Arnórsdóttir with 33.8%.

Ari Trausti Guðmundsson is next with 8.3 percent of the vote followed by Herdís Þorgeirsdóttir with 2.6 percent, Andrea J. Ólafsdóttir with 1.9 percent and Hannes Bjarnason with 1.1 percent.

At 23:30 16 percent of the vote from all six electoral districts had been counted.

Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson has served as Iceland’s president since 1996. If re-elected, it will be his fifth term in office.
