The High Court (Landsdómur) was split in its verdict over former Prime Minister of Iceland Geir H. Haarde, announced at the Culture House in Reykjavík at 2 pm today. He was acquitted in three of the four charges.

The majority cleared him of the Icelandic parliament Alþingi’s charges 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 but found him guilty in charge 2.0, in having failed to inform his ministers of the deteriorating economic climate in cabinet meetings.
However, Geir will not face any punishment and he was visibly relieved after the verdict was announced, RÚV reported. The Icelandic state is to cover all legal costs, including the salary of Geir’s attorney, Andri Árnason.
