Two boys, who are in elementary school, got stuck in a small manmade waterfall by the dam Reykdalsstífla in Lækurinn, a stream in the town of Hafnarfjörður outside Reykjavík, yesterday. CPR proved successful on one of the boys at the scene but the other is being kept unconscious on a ventilator. His condition was unchanged this morning.
A man, who is in his twenties, noticed the boys in the waterfall and tried to help them. He got stuck himself and was also taken to hospital. Four ambulances, a tank truck and police officers arrived at the scene. The operation proved difficult. The current was so strong that one of the police officers had to be rescued from the waterfall too, ruv.is reports.
The police are investigating the accident. Local authorities inspected the dam yesterday and took measures to ensure another such incident would not occur.
