Boy Hit by Snowmobile in Ski Resort Recovering

Fourteen-year-old Hafnarfjördur resident Bjarki Thór Fridleifsson, who was hit by a snowmobile in the Mt. Bláfjöll ski resort last weekend, is recovering. He suffered several injuries and doctors say he is lucky that they were not more severe.

Fridleifsson told Morgunbladid he only remembers taking the ski lift up to Kóngsgil slope and sliding down on his new snowboard and then waking up at the hospital.

An out of control snowmobile had hit him from behind. The driver, a staff member of the ski resort, had to jump off it because the snowmobile hit a ditch.

Fridleifsson suffered a blow to the head, bruised lungs, a broken leg and a collar bone. Because of the broken collar bone he cannot use crutches and has to rely on a wheelchair to travel between places.

“I guess I have to postpone my confirmation by one week,” said the unlucky snowboarder, who was supposed to have a traditional coming-of-age ceremony and party next weekend.
