A 12-year-old boy slipped while hiking on mount Esja, near Reykjavík, on Saturday and fell 50 meters.
The boy’s traveling companions called the rescue service and the fire department’s emergency squad, and a team of 25 arrived shortly thereafter.
As the accident happened high on the mountain, specially equipped vehicles were needed to get to the injured boy. RÚV reports.
It took three hours to get the boy to a hospital. He was in severe pain and one of his legs was thought to be broken.
