Boy Falls from Rope, Dies from Head Trauma

An 11-year-old Kópavogur resident died from bleeding to the brain at the National Hospital in Reykjavík on Sunday. He suffered a head trauma when he fell from a rope during gymnastics practice last week.

The boy was climbing a rope with his friends when he suddenly fell ill and slid down the rope. He hit a double mattress and thus did not suffer a severe blow to the head, Morgunbladid reports.

His friends called for help immediately and the ambulance worker and a physiotherapist, who was present during the practice, provided the boy with emergency relief.

A memorial service will be held for the boy in Digraneskirkja church tonight.
