Books for Christmastime Release Increasing

More books will be published in Iceland during this year’s Christmas season than ever before, according to literature magazine Bókatídindi. More than 800 books will hit bookstores this Christmas, an increase from 677 in 2006 and 660 in 2005.

Bókatídindi, which contains a listing of new publications and is delivered to Icelandic households in the second week of November, has a record-breaking 266 pages this year, Fréttabladid reports.

Icelandic publishing houses are also increasing. Currently, nearly 50 publishing houses are listed in the Association of Icelandic Book Publishers, about 40 of which are active. Paperbacks are on the rise as well as books for foreign tourists.
