Their relationship garnered world-wide attention when Jóhanna became PM in 2009 as she was the world’s first openly gay head of state, visir.is reports.
The couple have never wanted to speak publicly about their relationship before. “We have always tried to keep our personal life private but now we believe it’s time to make this unusual story, which spans almost three decades, public,” Jónína said in a statement from Mál og menning, the book’s publisher.
According to the publisher, the book covers romance and struggles and sheds a new light on the relationship between Jónína and Jóhanna. Jóhanna, who retired from politics earlier this year, wrote the epilogue.
