The first Flateyri Festival of Books (Bókahátíð á Flateyri) will be held in the West Fjords village of Flateyri this weekend, March 20-22. The focus will be on poetry, celebrating the centennial anniversary of the local Jón Eyjólfsson bookstore, which is still going strong. The bookstore is unique in that it is very unusual to have a bookstore in such a small community. The population of Flateyri is 205.

Eight writers and poets will read from their work at Vagninn, the local pub and restaurant, located next-door to the bookstore. They are: Bjarki Karlsson, Bjarni Bernharður Bjarnason, Björk Þorgrímsdóttir, Björn Hafberg, Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl, Guðmundur Hjaltason and Kristín Eiríksdóttir.
The local Arctic Oddi fish factory will open its doors and invite visitors to a free fish gourmet feast.
