Bolgungarvík crazy for patios

Inhabitants of the fishing village Bolungarvík (pop. 800) in Iceland’s Westfjords appear not to worry about a potential cut in the fishing quota and to intend to enjoy summer on their brand new patios, currently under construction.

“I’ve already dug holes for 11 patios this summer and I still have to dig holes for four more,” contractor Elvar Sigurgeirsson told Fréttabladid.

In addition to digging holes for the patios, Sigurgeirsson runs a machine rental in Bolungarvík and employs nine people. He said business usually picks up during summer. In winter Sigurgeirsson renovates tractors and vintage cars.
