Body Found in Iceland’s West Fjords Identified

death-announcementsThe Identification Committee of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police yesterday completed its investigation of human remains found by travelers on the beach Kaldbaksvík in Strandir, the eastern West Fjords, on Saturday.

The remains consisted of a skeleton and so dental records were used for the identification.

The body belonged to a man by the name of Gunnar Gunnarsson, born in 1962. Gunnar was a fisherman and fell overboard of Múlaberg SI-22 off Húnaflói bay, Northwest Iceland, on December 12, 2012.

Gunnar’s relatives were notified of the body’s identification yesterday.
