Bob Dylan to Play in Iceland This Spring

American music legend Bob Dylan will almost certainly perform at the third annual Rite of Spring music festival in Reykjavík, probably in May 2008, focusing on folk, jazz and world music.

Dylan has played in Iceland before, in 1990, and the artist was warmly welcomed by local fans, DV reports.

According to DV, Brazilian jazz musician Sérgio Mendes will also perform at the next Rite of Spring, who has released 38 albums in his successful career and many of his songs have made it to the American Billboard charts.

For the past two years Rite of Spring was held during one weekend at the concert venue NASA in downtown Reykjavík, but a larger venue will likely be required for artists like Dylan and Mendes.

Last year, composer and guitarist Goran Bregovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina was the biggest act in the spring festival.

The festival is organized by Mr. Destiny, the same promoter responsible for the Iceland Airwaves Festival, held in Reykjavík the third weekend in October every year.
