Blue Lagoon to double in size

The tourist attraction the Blue Lagoon has signed a contract to double the size of its facilities reports Morgunbladid. Six years ago a project that transformed the Blue Lagoon was completed. Now a new project, to enlarge the Blue Lagoon by 3000 square meters, is underway: the changing facility will be redesigned and enlarged; the restaurant will be renovated; and a new cafeteria seating 250 people will be built. The Blue Lagoon gift store will be enlarged as well as the employee offices. The bathing area in the lagoon itself will also double in size to 7,000 square meters. Morgunbladid reports that 350,000 guests have visited the lagoon so far this year; visitors are expected to increase in the coming years. The project is expected to be completed in 2007 and will cost about ISK 800 million.
