Windy conditions, northerly winds of 13-18 m/sec, and snowfall continue in North and East Iceland today, with the wind speed in Southeast Iceland in excess of 20 m/sec. Driving conditions in the north and east will remain difficult, especially on mountain roads. The temperature will remain around freezing point.
Tonight, it will get somewhat warmer, causing precipitation to change into sleet or rain by the north and northeast coast. Visibility will improve when blowing snow is no longer a problem.
It will be cloudy in the south with occasional snow showers. Strong wind gusts are expected in the south, especially near mountains.
Tomorrow, northerly winds of 10-15 m/sec are forecast in the north, accompanied by snow or sleet showers, but clear in the south.
Winds will diminish tomorrow night.
Several mountain roads are impassable in the West Fjords, the north and east, while others are snow-covered, slippery, or have icy spots. Blowing snow and snow showers limit visibility and make traveling difficult on many mountain roads.
