The Icelandic Met Office issued a Yellow Alert weather warning on Tuesday night, warning of high winds, slippery roads, and blizzard conditions around the capital area, as well as significant parts of the south and west of the country. The weather warning is valid into Wednesday afternoon.
In Reykjavík, winds will be 13-20 m/s “with snow or blowing snow…Sleet or even rain close to the sea.” Driving conditions are expected to be difficult because of low visibility and slippery roads. Similar warnings have been issued for Southeast and Southwest Iceland, Breiðafjörður and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the West Fjords, North West Iceland, and the highlands.
Travelers can refer to the Met website for up-to-date information about weather and driving conditions and are advised to travel with caution.
