Black Ice Warning

The Icelandic Road Administration warns commuters of black ice, that is, a transparent coating of ice, which could form on roads after dark. A shower system is passing the western part of the country, making it possible for temperatures to drop below freezing at ground level in the calm wind that follows.

There is particular danger of black ice tonight when skies clear up in South and West Iceland, the West Fjords and the western part of North Iceland.

Numerous mountain passes in the western part of the country are slippery already.
