Björk Releases New Single

Björk released a new track called ‘The Gate’ earlier today. The song is the first single from her upcoming album which bears the same name as the single. The album comes after a two-year gap in album releases from the artist and will be released in November 2017.

“‘The Gate’ is essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way” Björk commented in an interview with Dazed magazine, where she featured on the cover. She announced the release of the album with a hand-written note on social media on the 2nd of August 2017. ‘The Gate’ will be her ninth studio album to date as it follows up Vulnicura, released in January 2015. Vulnicura was written in the aftermath of her breakup with artist Matthew Barney and thus looked to the past. ‘The Gate’, however, looks forward as the music is an ode to the search for utopia. Björk describes it herself as her “Tinder album” and commented further “I’d just say this is my dating album. Let’s just leave it there. “Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. It’s about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.” she quipped when asked about her creative work.

Björk teams up with Venezuelan artist Arca on The Gate, which she had previously worked with on Vulnicura. It was produced by the tandem and Björk has said their relationship is the strongest musical relationship she has had. You can buy the single here while the album itself, which will be released in a number of different versions, is available for pre-order here. They include vinyl and two different CD versions; one digipack and a standard jewel case. There are also plans afoot for a luxury edition. Four song titles have been released for the album at this point in time: “Allow”, “Loss”, “Features Creatures” and “The Gate”, and a music video for “The Gate” is expected shortly.
