Björk to Perform in Nordic House’s Advent Calendar

Along with a host of other Icelandic artists, singer-songwriter Björk will perform in the “living” Advent calendar of the Nordic House in the latter part of December. It is, however, a secret on which day exactly Björk will perform.

“She comes to the Nordic House sometimes so we just asked her if she wanted to participate and she agreed,” office manager of the Nordic House Thurídur Helga Kristjánsdóttir told Morgunbladid.

The “living” Advent calendar began on December 1 and the last performance is scheduled for December 23. Every day an artist, musician, actor, poet or writer of nationwide fame, including the Motion Boys, Sjón and Hallgrímur Helgason, will perform at 12:34 for 15 to 20 minutes.

“I don’t know what Björk plans to do. All of the artists are free to do whatever they want. Until now there have been musical performances and readings and I can reveal that next weekend there will be a special children’s program,” Kristjánsdóttir said.

This is the second time that the Nordic House offers a “living” Advent calendar in December. “The idea is for people to experience a quiet and cozy Christmas atmosphere at noon and take a short break from all the Advent stress,” Kristjánsdóttir explained.

Admission is free to all events. The Nordic House is located on Sturlugata 5 in 101 Reykjavík.
