Björk Hopes to Raise GBP 375,000 on Kickstarter

Björk hopes to raise GBP 375,000 (USD 591,000, EUR 438,400) on Kickstarter to transfer her Biophilia-app over to Windows 8 and Android operating systems. Björk says the goal is to make the app, which is currently only available for Apple products, more accessible to children from low income households, as reported on ruv.is.

The Biophilia education program is a new, interactive way to teach children about science and music. The app uses touchscreen technology to create “in-app experiences” involving music and the natural world, providing children with instruction in musical and scientific principles—from rhythm and counterpoint to lunar effects on the tides and tectonic plate movement.

In a statement on the Kickstarter website, Björk said that the project had proved successful in many cities, sparking interest from other parts of the world.

“It has been met with success in many cities, sparking interest from kids and educators all over the world, from South America to East Asia to Africa. The most interest has come from students from low-income households and schools with underfunded art budgets, and the only way to bring the project to those people is to have Biophilia reprogrammed for Android and Windows 8.”

As the project is not-for-profit, Björk is looking for outside assistance to fund it.

As of 2:30 pm today, GBP 9,450 had been pledged to the project.

Kickstarter is reportedly the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.
