Icelandic superstar Björk and her band, who have been touring for 17 months, will play unplugged during their final and 75th concert of the tour in Langholtskirkja church in Reykjavík tonight. The 300 available tickets sold out in one hour yesterday.
“We practiced last night and yesterday, so it should be good. I hope that we are ready,” Björk’s organist Jónas Sen told Morgumbladid, adding, “It is a new approach. No routine at all. During the tour we had 40 songs ready and never played the same program but the Langholtskirkja concert will doubtless be very special.”
Sen said the concert is not completely unplugged. “We use a little bit of electricity to emphasize a few things. For example, I play two songs on a harpsichord which would be inaudible without a sound system.”
Sen said the idea for the concert first surfaced on August 15. Apart from Sen, Björk’s band contains female brass band Wonderbrass, the Schola Cantorum choir and Mark Bell, a musician and producer of electronic house music.
Their concert tonight will be filmed and the plan is to release it on DVD in a few months.
