Björk Delivers “Innovation Package” to Iceland’s PM

Singer-songwriter Björk, Reykjavík University rector Svafa Grönfeldt and editor of Oddný Eir Aevarsdóttir delivered a package to Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde on Wednesday, containing their ideas on how innovation can help Iceland’s economy.

“These are proposals or starting points on how regulations and funds can be improved to help innovation to thrive in Iceland,” Björk told Fréttabladid.

“It is pleasing. Good ideas is what we need right now,” Haarde said after opening the package, who thought they were even more pleasing after Björk explained that many of the proposals would not be costly.

The ideas are the products of the Neisti initiative organized by Reykjavík University, Björk, and Klak – the Innovation Center of the Economy.

Grönfeldt pointed out that although the package was small, companies like Össur and Marel started out as ideas that would have fallen under such a package.
