Björk’s Upcoming Album Can Be Bought Using Digital Currency

Björk fans will be able to buy the artist’s upcoming album Utopia using cryptocurrency, Musically reports. Those who pre-order the album will earn cryptocurrency rewards as well. Cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, are a subset of digital currencies.

Those who purchase the album, whether by cryptocurrency, credit card, or PayPal, will also receive 100 Audiocoins, worth about USD 0.19 (ISK 20) deposited into an ‘e-wallet’ for them, which they can exchange for other cryptocurrencies or convert into ‘fiat’ currencies like pounds or dollars.

Björk has teamed up with Blockpool, who are developing crypto checkout and reward functions for the Bjork store.

The artist has long been known for incorporating technology into her music, and this step is no exception. Though Björk is not the first musician to allow fans to pay for her music using cryptocurrency (artists Imogen Heap and RAC both collaborated with Ujo Music to accept payments in cryptocurrency), she seems to be the first to do so on such a large scale.

“People have done things with crypto and artists before, but this is the first time a global artist has done anything like this. While it will be interesting to see how the crypto community responds to this, Utopia is also a gateway for people to go into crypto for the first time. Björk is the best artist in the world we could imagine doing this,” stated Blockpool CEO Kevin Bacon.
