Bird Species Makes Rare Appearance in Iceland

By Iceland Review

A Eurasian Bittern, rarely seen in Iceland, was spotted near Laugar in Reykjadalur valley in Northeast Iceland over the weekend, ruv.is reports.

Previously, only five of the birds had been spotted in the country since the first sighting in 1937.

It was the local school teacher who saw the bird but biologist Yann Kolbeinsson took this picture of this rare traveler to Iceland.

The male population of the species numbers 44,000.
