The authorized biography of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the fourth President of Iceland from 1980 – 1996, written by author Páll Valsson, is the bestselling book in Iceland before this Christmas, according to a bestselling list published by the Mál og Menning bookstore in Reykjavík.
This is the first total bestseller list made public that counts sales for October, November and December, and an accurate indicator of the total result.
In second place is a crime novel by Icelandic author Arnaldur Indridason, often called Iceland’s King of Crime. The novel’s Icelandic name is Svörtuloft.
The only foreign book on the top ten list is a translation of More Happiness by Tal Ben-Shahar.
Sales for an Icelandic bestseller can range from 10,000 to 20,000 copies.
