Icelandic entrepreneurs and billionaires Björgólfur Gudmundsson and his son Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson have become the largest properties owners in downtown Reykjavík (postal code 101) through their real estate company Samson Properties.
The father and son recently purchased almost every building between Barónsstígur, Hverfisgata, Vitastígur and Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main shopping street, Fréttabladid reported this week.
The two billionaires are also in possession of several buildings between Lindargata, Vatnsstígur, Laugavegur and Frakkastígur. The 101 area in Reykjavík is the most sought-after and expensive place to live in the city.
Ásgeir Fridgeirsson, Gudmundsson’s and Björgólfsson’s spokesperson, said it has not been decided what will become of the purchased properties. “We have a lot of options for organizing the area as a whole.”
