Icelandic musician Laufey has released the Christmas EP A Very Laufey Holiday. She has also debuted a music video for her rendition of the Christmas classic Santa Baby, which features a cameo from actor Bill Murray and American ballet dancer Isabella Boylston.
A very Laufey holiday
Icelandic singer Laufey released the Christmas EP album A Very laufey Holiday today. The album features five songs, including Christmas Dreaming and Winter Wonderland, which the musician released last year.
To celebrate the release, Laufey debuted a video to her cover of Santa Baby on Youtube today. The opening and closing scenes of the video feature a cameo from actor Bill Murray. “Come on, gather ’round the screen,” Murray begins by saying. “This is the story of a nice and naughty girl, who for Christmas this year wants a few big things that money can buy, and a few bigger things that it probably cannot. As you might have guessed, our tale begins here on this very stage.”
American ballet dancer Isabella Boylston serves as the principal dancer in the video. (Boylston was born Hildur Isabella Boylston, named for an Icelandic great-grandmother.)
The video was directed by Jason Lester. Laufey’s sister, Junia Lin, served as creative director.
A busy year
It’s been a busy twelve months for Laufey. She won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her album Bewitched earlier this year. Bewitched set a record for the most streams in the jazz category on Spotify on its day of release in 2023, accumulating 5.7 million streams.
Laufey also released two Christmas singles in collaboration with Norah Jones last Christmas.
