In the Footsteps of a Storyteller: A Literary Walk with Thórbergur Thórdarson has been released in two languages, English and German. Readers are invited to visit the countryside where the author grew up in Sudursveit in southeast Iceland.
The guide contains excerpts from Thórdarson’s book Í Sudursveit, where he describes the nature and environment around his farm Hali, which at that time was among the remotest farmsteads in Iceland, a press release from the publisher, Mál og menning, describes. It also contains photographs of the area’s main landmarks.
The book has three purposes: to point out an interesting walk, present the local environment and history to readers and provide foreign visitors with the opportunity to read Thórdarson’s writing—only a few of his novels have been translated into foreign languages.
Thórbergur Thórdarson is considered one of the most original Icelandic authors of the 20th century. At Hali there is now a museum, Thórbergssetur, dedicated to his life and work.
The book is available in bookstores in Iceland and on forlagid.is. Email inquiries to [email protected].
