The accident occurred when the driver of the truck, which was carrying containers to the recycling station Sorpa on Dalvegur, turned to enter the station’s premises by a lane marked as an exit, and didn’t notice the biker who was on a walking-cycling path, Morgunbladid reports.
After the accident the recycling station’s operators admitted to having asked truck drivers to use the exit as an entrance to ease traffic congestion at the station’s actual entrance.
They announced that they regretted the accident and would review their work methods. The accident is being investigated by the police who were looking for witnesses.
