Thirty years ago there were just 269 kilometers of asphalt bike paths in the capital area, today there are 768 kilometers.

A recent Capacent-Gallup poll on the biking habits of capital residents found that four out of ten never cycle, four percent use their bike as the only means of transportation and sixty percent cycle for recreation, but mostly in the summer months, reports.

The most active bikers live in Reykjavík, in Vesturbæ (the western part of town), Miðbær (downtown), and in Laugardalur.
