Kristjánsdóttir is the leader of the Independence Party in Reykjavík. Her party lost two seats in the recent elections and the majority it had with the Progressive party, which lost its sole member on the council.
The new majority is comprised of the Best Party, which won six seats out of 15 in its first campaign, and the Social Democratic Alliance, which gained three seats and lost one.
According to reports, Jón Gnarr’s assistant Heida Kristín Helgadóttir said yesterday that he had held discussions with leaders of the Independence Party and the Left Green Party, but that those talks were confidential.
