Best catch in Iceland’s fishing history

The trawler Venus HF 519, which belongs to the fishing company HB Grandi, returned from a highly successful fishing trip to the Barents Sea on Tuesday. The record catch is worth ISK 183 million (USD 2.7 million, EUR 2.1 million).

“We are in Spain in a group of 50, because we brought our wives of course. We are enjoying ourselves after a difficult but a successful fishing trip,” first mate at Venus Arnar Haukur Aevarsson told Fréttabladid.

The fishing trip took 34 days and the catch was 1,000 tons, mainly cod. The trawler is now in a shipyard for ten days while the crew takes a break.

“We plan to use this opportunity to have fun here in Spain. The crew deserves it,” Aevarsson said.
