Icelandic big band Benni Hemm Hemm, awarded as best newcomer at the Icelandic Music Awards in January 2006, releases its second album Kajak today. To mark the event, the band will play in record store 12 Tónar in Reykjavík at 5 pm.
Benni Hemm Hemm’s first LP, Benni Hemm Hemm, was released in 2005 and has, according to the band, become popular around the world. To promote Kajak, the band is planning concerts in the UK and Japan and a tour around Europe next year.
Kajak, published by record label Smákökurnar, contains 13 new song composed by lead singer Benedikt H. Hermannsson, who also wrote ten of the lyrics. The remaining three were written by one of the band’s bass players Örvar Thóreyjarson Smárason.
Kajak will be released on vinyl in December. The vinyl contains extra track, a different version of “Aldrei.” The song is performed by Swedish musician Jens Lekman, who sings in Icelandic.
On 15 December Benni Hemm Hemm will play in Tjarnarbíó, Reykjavík. Icelandic bands Retro Stefson, Hjaltalín and Skakkamanage will also perform.
Kajak will be published by Morr Music in Europe in January and in the USA in February. P-Vine Records will publish the album in Japan.
