Icelandic State Radio RÚV is reporting that the benefit concert held at Laugardallshöll concert hall on Saturday evening was a huge success. The concert was held by the Stop! Group, an Icelandic environmental organization. According to RÚV, the aim of the concert was to highlight Icelandic nature and how it should be protected instead of exploited by heavy industry and aluminium plants. The name of the concert was “Ertu að verða náttúrlaus?”, an Icelandic play on words – the title literally means “are you becoming nature-less”, but uses the Icelandic word for impotent.
The sold-out concert featured the biggest names in Icelandic music, including Björk, Sigur Rós, Bubbi, and Hjálmar, as well as international ‘friends of Iceland’ like Damon Albarn and Damien Rice. According to RÚV, the atmosphere was “fabulous”.
